I'm trying to find information about my grandfather, whom I never knew. Info that needs to be verified: Enlisted Grahamstown 1 Jul 1902, Reg No 1881, Previous service: Sergt Major Nesbitt's Horse. Died Cape Town 1953. I also need to establish his date of birth. He married Hester Ann Ellis - no other details. I live in Dublin, Ireland and would appreciate any help, thank you. C W Wallace is listed on the QSA and KSA rolls for Nesbitt's Horse. He gained the QSA with clasps Cape Colony and Orange Free State and the KSA with two clasps.

He is listed on the nominal roll but with no further details. His entry is the on the first page of the Ws. www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/so...sbitts-horse?start=1

There are enrollment papers at the National Archives which may give a little biographical details.

David, Thank you so much for this info and the welcome to the forum. I am a complete novice - how do I access the National Archives? Do they have an online access? I would very much like to work back to the date he went to South Africa and where he came from in the UK. His birth date is my next goal to try and put the pieces together.
