A foray into the above has proved fruitful. Something I have never seen before, a typed list of call up (commandeered) instructions to Burghers in the Kroonstad area. I have the medal to E Serfontein of Tochgekregen.
Roughly translated from the Dutch, the first page reads:
"At the command of His Excellency the State President in terms of Act 10 of 1899 the following Burghers are commandeered (called up) with horse, saddle, bridle, rifle and 90 rounds of ammunition, together with provisions (rations) for 8 days, to report to my farm BOOMTUIN on Tuesday, 3rd October at 8 a.m. H.P. VOSLOO"
Interesting stuff as it all adds to the narrative and collective pool of knowledge.
Regards
