Hello, my name is Amanda. I am desperately searching for answers about an ancestor of mine. I have the QSA medal with the engraving 6507 Pte J. Naughton, 1st Connaught Rang: It also has the clasps: South Africa 1901, Transvaal, Orange Free State, and Natal. I have found zero information connecting the number with the name so far. My great grandmothers maiden name was also Naughton. There is a relation but not sure in what way.

Hello Amanda,
Sadly, it is necessary to know the first one hundred years as far as your family goes, John Naughton was a 19 year old labourer from Galway, on joining the "Devils Own" in 1898, his father, also John and his bothers Patrick, William, Thomas and Michael are given as his next of kin.
So I should start to ask around the family now if I were you and see what they have to say, someone might be familiar with one or more of the five brothers.
Kind regards Frank
