Panet | Henri Alexandre | | Captain | PANET, HENRI ALEXANDRE, Captain, was born 24 July 1869, son of Colonel Charles Eugene Panet. He graduated at the Royal Military College of Canada, and served in the South African War, 1899-1900, and was present at the Relief of Mafeking. He was mentioned in Despatches [London Gazette, 16 April 1901]; was given the Brevet of Major, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 19 April 1901]: "Henri Alexandre Panet, Captain, Royal Canadians. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". The Insignia were presented to him by the Commandant, Royal Military College, Canada. He was Staff Adjutant, Royal Military College of Canada, 1901-5; AAG, 1905-7; DAG, 1907-9. He was promoted to Colonel, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery; served in the European War; was wounded and mentioned in Despatches; became Brigadier General; was created a CMG in 1916, and a CB in 1919. He married, in 1902, Mary A, youngest daughter of James Bermingham, of Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
