Muriel | Charles Leslie | | Captain | He was killed in action at Spion Kop in the operations on the Upper Tugela, January 24th, 1900. He was born February 1866, and entered the Middlesex Regt February 1887, being promoted Lieutenant May 1889, and Captain October 1895. He was adjutant of his battalion from October 1895-99. At Spion Kop Captain Muriel was first shot through the cheek whilst giving a cigarette to a wounded man. He then continued to lead his company, and was shortly afterwards shot through the brain.
