Alexander Henry was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He attested for the Highland Light Infantry at the city of his birth in February 1901, and served with them (attached 1st Scottish Horse) in South Africa, March 1901 - April 1902. Henry was discharged on the latter date have advanced to Corporal.

Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, Ed VII (5316 Pte. J. Cochrane. 8/H.L.I.)

James Cochrane was born in Carluke, Lanarkshire, on 18 June 1876 and enlisted in the 9th Battalion, Lanarkshire VRC on 14 May 1893. Following the outbreak of the Boer War he volunteered to serve with the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, for 1 year. Promoted Corporal on 27 January 1908, and Sergeant on 27 May 1912, following the outbreak of the Great War, he again volunteered to serve overseas and served attached to the 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots on the Western Front from 17 February 1915 until the termination of his period of engagement on 5 April 1916.

P. Donnelly was born in Govan, Glasgow, in 1865 and attested for the Highland Light Infantry at Hamilton on 23 October 1885. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India from 15 February 1886 to 5 November 1893, before transferring to the Army Reserve on 11 November 1893. Recalled for War service on 22 October 1899 he served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 24 March 1900 to 28 July 1902, and was finally discharged on 4 August 1902.

QSA (3) Modder River, Wittebergen, South Africa 1901, unofficial rivets between second and third clasps, with traces of an additional ‘South Africa 1902’ clasp having been removed (2281 Pte. T. Hart, 1: High: Lt. Inft.)

Thomas Hart was born at Barony, Glasgow, on 23 May 1859 and attested for the Highland Light Infantry on 10 May 1886, having previously served in the 3rd Battalion, Scottish Rifles. He served with the Regiment in India from 7 September 1888 to 27 April 1894, and then transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 May 1894. Recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of the Boer War, he served in South Africa from 23 October 1899 to 17 February 1901, and was finally discharged from the 3rd Volunteer Battalion on 8 August 1910.
