Jim, medals to the Border Mounted Rifles, which was amalgamated with the NMR early in WWI, are a complementary collecting area that gave me much pleasure.

QSA (3) Orange Free State, Laing's Nek (382 Tpr: G. Olsen. Natal M.R.)

Served 26 March to 8 October 1900.

Verified on WO100/260p23.

Notes add Ex CS (Colonial Scouts) Trooper. I can see a man called E Olsen on the medal roll (clasp Relief of Ladysmith) and nominal roll but no G Olsen. E Olsen also served in the NMR. On p23, all the ex Colonial Scouts men have the Relief clasp appended as a later addition, except G Olsen. He must have joined the Colonial Scouts shortly before they were disbanded perhaps?

There in nothing particularly special about this medal to Charles Rodi James. It had been languishing in the London medal Company shop for quite a while and I felt it was time for a change of ownership...
