Attested Pte. 15-5-1915; promoted Sgt. 15-5-1915; posted 21-5-1915; appointed Acting C.S.M. 11-4-1916 10th Bn.; transferred to 39th Bn. as A/CSM; reverted to Sgt at own request, but refused. Transferred to 2/4th Bn. A/CSM 22-12-1917; Transferred to 4th Reserve as A/CSM on 15-2-1918. Discharged as no longer physically fit for service as A/CSM on 21-3-1918.
He married Christina Gordon on 8 March 1902. She lived at 5 Church Street, Inverness. They had seven children:
